Mark Schuster was an athlete in high school and college. He received a Masters in Sport Psychology and Cultural Studies of Sport concurrently with his PhD coursework in Higher Education, both from the University of Iowa. For ten years, he taught Advanced Topics in Social Psychology: The Intersection of Sport and Sexuality at Rutgers University. He is the Senior Dean of Students at Rutgers for 35,000 undergraduates for the New Brunswick-Piscataway campus. He is affiliate faculty in Pscyhology, American Studies, and Women and Gender Studies. Mark teaches a course on Sport in American Culture and Culture Games: What Do Major Sporting Events Tell Us about Society and Culture? He has presented nationally and internationally on sport and sexuality and is a founder of the Standing Committee for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Awareness for the American College Personnel Association. Mark advises elite and Olympic athletes, especially OUR GROUP: elite athletes that advocate for LGBT high school and college student-athletes and their allies.
